Visualization of Dark Matter Streams
credit: Oliver Hahn, Tom Abel, Ralf Käehler
So cool. Dark matter is called dark because there’s no electrical activity (ergo, light) and so it’s detected by its gravitational activity, which is pretty sweet. And if you think about the world with that logic then neutrons would be dark matter too, right, because there’s no charge so how could there be electrical activity? But, they have certain magnetic properties that may be detected so people think that neutrons are really just some combination of positive and negative charges that have basically a null sum of charge. I’m pretty sure a couple of studies have shown that. Science is freaking awesome.

“Aerogel is a synthetic porous material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component of the gel has been replaced with a gas. The result is a solid with extremely low density[1] and thermal conductivity. It is nicknamed frozen smoke,[2] solid smoke, solid air or blue smoke owing to its translucent nature and the way lightscatters in the material”
very, very cool.
‘roly poly’, designed by the design incubation centre at the national university of singapore, are a pair of egg-like objects that mirror each other’s movements, even when physically separated. two people thus can sense each other’s presence despite distances across the world: a tap of one half will create a simultaneous reaction in the other.
